چکیده

Diamond-like carbon (DLC) coatings were deposited on Ti alloy (Ti-13Nb-13Zr) substrates using the plasma immersion process. The plasma immersion process, unlike the conventional techniques, allows the deposition of DLC on three-dimensional workpieces with high adhesion. We quantitatively evaluated the adhesion of fibroblasts on DLCcoated and uncoated Ti alloy at 2 h. Comparisons between sample groups were made using one-factor ANOVA and the Tukey test was used to determine statistical significance at p<0.05. After incubation of fibroblasts (Vero cells) on DLC-coated and uncoated Ti alloy for 24 h, the cells were observed with scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Our results suggest that cells adhere better in DLC-coated Ti alloy than in uncoated Ti alloy. .

Analyzing the performance of diamond-coated micro end mills

A method is presented to improve the tool life and cutting performance of 300mm diameter tungsten carbide (WC) micro end mills by applying thin (o300nm) fine-grained diamond (FGD) and nanocrystalline diamond (NCD) coatings using the hot-filament chemical vapor deposition (HF-CVD) process. The performance of the diamond-coated tools has been evaluated by comparing their performance in dry slot m...

Surface modification of neural recording electrodes with conducting polymer/biomolecule blends.

The interface between micromachined neural microelectrodes and neural tissue plays an important role in chronic in vivo recording. Electrochemical polymerization was used to optimize the surface of the metal electrode sites. Electrically conductive polymers (polypyrrole) combined with biomolecules having cell adhesion functionality were deposited with great precision onto microelectrode sites o...

In vitro behavior of silk fibroin-coated calcium magnesium silicate scaffolds

Bioceramic scaffolds such as silicate bioceramics have been widely used for bone tissue engineering. However, their high degradation rate, low mechanical strength and surface instability are main challenges compromising their bioactivity and cytocompatibility which further negatively affect the cell growth and attachment. In this study, we have investigated the effects of silk fibroin coating o...

Nanostructured metal coatings on polymers increase osteoblast attachment

Bioactive coatings are in high demand to increase the functions of cells for numerous medical devices. The objective of this in vitro study was to characterize osteoblast (bone-forming cell) adhesion on several potential orthopedic polymeric materials (specifically, polyetheretherketone, ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene, and polytetrafluoroethylene) coated with either titanium or gold u...

Surface Hydrophilicity and Antifungal Properties of TiO2 Films Coated on a Co-Cr Substrate

The purpose of this study was to deposit a thin layer of TiO2 on a Co-Cr substrate, serving as a deactivation film protecting the metallic fitting surface. The crystalline structure and surface morphology of the film were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). A scratch tester was used to examine the adhesion strength between the TiO2 film and the Co-Cr...
